The Jewish rejection of Jesus: hitting the nail on the head

Jew

Our sages reject your scriptures and all those things about your Christian messiah because they have no record of any of it.

Jewish Christian

But dear fellow, don’t you see the very scriptures you reject contain vivid descriptions of the Jewish rejection of these events. So the excuse you offer why your sages rejected these scriptures is merely a continuation (it’s called “tradition”) of the old story recorded in the New Testament.

John 18:19-23

19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. 21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. 22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? 23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

“To expect, then, a proof of the consent of their fathers to that record, while the record itself witnesses that they dissented from it, is to overthrow the record and all that is contained in it. The Jews, then, have nothing to oppose to this testimony, but only their own unbelief; which, for all the reasons that have been insisted on, cannot be admitted as any just objection. History or circumstance they have none to oppose to it.”

(John Owen, Exposition of the Epistle to the Hebrews, Volume 1).

Jew – All that stuff about nailing G-d to a cross!

JC (Jewish Christian) – You”ve hit the nail on the head.
